Performance Company and Competition Teams

The Bethesda Dance Center Teams Program consists of two tracks: Performance Company and Competition Team. Both tracks are for 4th-7th graders only who are also enrolled in our Core program.

Performance Company

Auditions for the 2025-2026 Year have already taken place. The Performance Company and Competition Teams are full.

BDC’s Performance Company is a group of passionate and committed dancers who participate in local performance opportunities as well as in the BDC Recital. Performance Company dancers learn extra choreography and participate in special performances. They will attend one convention as well as other master classes/workshops. Performance Company focuses on the development of the dancers’ technical skills and performance quality and is designed for dancers who are looking to reach beyond their Core Classes and dedicate more time and effort to dance. Performance Company is available to dancers in 4th-7th grades.

Prioritizing attendance at Performance Company and all other dance classes is required to ensure the dancers, as a group, are ready to perform throughout the year. There are limits on the number of absences for the year for Performance Company dancers. Performance Company requires a more serious time commitment from dancers and families for rehearsals, events, and performances, compared to a Core Class. Performance Company also requires at-home practice of routines, to ensure all team members are retaining choreography from week to week. PC dancers are BDC role models and leaders who will build close connections with one another and help lead events at the studio. Performance Company requires some minimal and local travel with most events being held within 1 hour or less of Bethesda.

Competition Team

Auditions for the 2025-2026 Year have already taken place. The Performance Company and Competition Teams are full.

BDC’s Competition Team is a highly committed ensemble of advanced dancers who demonstrate a very high level of potential and technical skill. The Competition Team is designed for passionate, serious, and focused dancers who are self-motivated students. Competition Team members will attend multiple competitions, conventions, workshops, and events throughout the year. Competition Team is the largest and most serious time commitment offered at BDC. BDC’s Competition Team is available to dancers in 4th-7th grades.

The Competition Team is designed for dancers who demonstrate a strong work ethic and appetite to learn, improve, and excel as a dancer. Competition Team members are expected to show encouragement and support to one another in the dance studio and on stage, and they will partake in bonding activities to cultivate a positive environment and culture within the program. Competition Team requires frequent at-home practice, to ensure dancers are retaining choreography, formations, and corrections each week. There are limits on the number of absences for the year for Competition Team dancers. Some Competition Team dances will be performed in the BDC Recital; however, their dances are mainly prepared for competitions. The Competition Team may require traveling in-state or to nearby states for some events.
